&nbsp;"TREEMENDOUS" aims to plant in excess of 50,000 trees in Greater York

St Nicks is the green heart of York: a centre for nature and green living, with an ambitious <a href="https://stnicks.org.uk/about-us/the-charity/">vision for York</a>. The charity started as &lsquo;Friends of St Nicholas Fields&rsquo; in the 1990s by transforming a former landfill site into a thriving Local Nature Reserve. We continue to manage it, with the help of many great volunteers, for the benefit of both wildlife and our visitors. The name of the site and the secular charity comes from the middle ages when the area was owned and managed by St Nicholas hospital and church. We are based at <a title="Green design" href="https://stnicks.org.uk/?page_id=270">St Nicks Environment Centre</a> which combines many green features. From this base, we run projects, events and services which help to make York more sustainable. The Centre is <a title="Hire the Centre" href="https://stnicks.org.uk/?page_id=273">available for hire</a> for meetings, seminars and other events. We hope you will visit us soon.
St Nicks is registered as &lsquo;Friends of St Nicholas Fields&rsquo;, <a title="The charity" href="https://stnicks.org.uk/about-us/the-charity/">charity </a>no.1153739. We are partially funded by <a href="http://www.york.gov.uk" target="_blank" rel="noopener">City of York Council</a> and partly by grants from other sources whose support is gratefully received and acknowledged on <a title="Funders and sponsors" href="https://stnicks.org.uk/about-us/the-charity/funders-and-sponsors/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">this page</a>. We're a group of local residents who run, walk, or cycle to help out community projects and older people in York. From hanging curtains for Mr H because he can't manage it on his own, to shovelling a tonne of compost for the Food Growers Group so they can grow vegetables - every GoodGym session is different.

GoodGym York

York Environment Forum is the voice for the environment in York, encompassing both the natural environment and the built environment.
The Environment Forum has been operating for many years and is one of the outside bodies that the City of York Council works in partnership with. Traditionally, the Forum has functioned as a &lsquo;critical friend&rsquo; to the Council, commenting and writing reports on policies and strategies as they relate to York&rsquo;s environment and, from time to time, highlighting on specific issues.

Our volunteer groups carry out interesting and varied conservation tasks throughout York and surrounding areas. This is a great chance to learn skills, make friends and enjoy being outdoors whilst carrying out practical work to help improve places for people and the environment
